The American-Turkish Council condemns the suicide bombing on March 19 in Istanbul that killed at least 5 people, including two Americans, and injured at least 35. Our prayers go out to the families of those lost and hurt in this vile attack.
We express solidarity with Turkey and the U.S. in their continued joint efforts against terror, and advocate for their closer cooperation in the context of a deteriorating security situation.
As we have said before, this attack is an attack not just on Istanbul. It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack that pushes back against the very alliance we work to promote every day, however we are confident that this tragedy will further magnify the importance of the U.S.-Turkey relationship and prompt a resolute, unified response.
