
LTG. Yavuz Turkgenci
LTG. Yavuz TURKGENCI was born in Tekirdag in 1962. He graduated from the Turkish Military Academy in 1984 as an armor officer and completed the Armor Officer Basic Course in 1985.
Between 1985 and 1989 he served as a platoon commander. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA from 1989 to 1991 and received his Master of Science degree in Weapons Systems and Mechanical Engineering.
LTG. TURKGENCI graduated from the Army Staff College in 1997 and served as; staff officer for the 34th Brigade HQ, the intelligence officer for the Western European Union HQ (1999-2000, Belgium) and as a staff officer for Turkish Military Representation (2000-2002, Belgium) at the NATO HQ respectively.
Following his tour as a battalion commander at the Armor School between 2002 and 2003, he served as a staff officer at the Plans and Policies Division of the Land Forces Command HQ. In 2005 he was appointed as the Dumlu Garrison Commander and the Deputy Commander of 4th Armored Brigade.
After he was promoted to Brigadier General in 2007, LTG. TURKGENCI was assigned to NATO Joint Forces Command Naples HQ in Italy and served as the Chief of Operations between 2007 and 2009. He later served as the Commander of the 1st Armored Brigade between 2009 and 2011.
LTG. TURKGENCI was promoted to Major General in 2011 and was appointed as the Head of Strategy Department at the Turkish General Staff HQ. He served in this capacity between 2011 and 2014. He was later appointed as the Commander of the 52nd Tactical Armored Division in 2014 and remained at this post until 2016.
On 28 July 2016 he was promoted to Lieutenant General rank and was appointed as the Director of Plans and Policy Directorate at the Turkish General Staff. LTG. TURKGENCI is currently serving in this position.
LTG. TURKGENCI is married to Emine TURKGENCI and has two children. He speaks English and French languages.
