Doreen Edelman is a shareholder in the Washington, D.C. office of Baker Donelson and is a co-leader of the Firm’s Global Business Team. Ms. Edelman has 25 years of experience counseling companies on global expansion. She advises clients on cross border agreements, and export, import and compliance obligations. Ms. Edelman has served the American Turkish Council as its legal counsel for many years and has represented both Turkish and U.S. entities in accessing the other’s market. This has included policy work with both governments as well as structuring foreign investment vehicles and finding partnerships to grow market share in Turkey, the U.S., Iran, and other third markets. Ms. Edelman has a well-established relationship with OFAC officials inside the Department of Treasury and has successfully obtained numerous licenses for transactions involving embargoed and sanctioned countries. She also assists with customs, FCPA and export compliance issues in merger and acquisitions due diligence. She is a frequent speaker and contributor on export and anti-corruption compliance and has developed an on-line, on-demand training module for companies, Export Compliance Tools, as well as regularly blogging about relevant export topics on her blog; Export Compliance Matters.
